Mission Statement
Who am I & Why am I here? - The Hanover Computers Owner's Mission Statement
There is much to be said of the past and more to plan for the future.
I used to wonder who I was and why was I here. I know my name, John Chin, and I know my county of Hanover, which I have lived in for 17 years. I wanted a deeper meaning. I wanted to know why I invested my savings into my dream of Hanover Computers. Why not continue to dream from a distance as opposed to try to live my dream, with no promises of success?
I think it is because I want to prove myself, not to my peers or my associates but to myself. I’ve suffered through teen-age pains that many of my generation seems to be afflicted with; low self esteem, lack of direction, and indifferent peer groups. I survived because I realised much of that was in my mind. Perhaps if I focused on a dream, I could prove that there is nothing wrong with the world, just something wrong with my attitude.
I admit that I began this business for personal gain, a gain going beyond fame, fortune, or pride. My gain is fulfilling my mind, body, heart, and soul I was blessed with. I have felt an empty soul of a directionless life for too long, I wanted to fill it with positive deeds and thoughts. I took what I knew most, computers. I have been in, out, and around computers since my Commodore in 1984. Since then, I have spent much time learning about PCs; the 286, 386, 486, 586, 686, Simms, Dimms, PCI, EISA, and CGA, EGA, VGA, SVGA and much more. I even had the fortune to use and access the Internet in 1990, before the boom that commercialized it.
I had a strong knowledge that I wanted to use to make a difference, and just as important, to be a friend to those who needed my trusted opinion. I will be honest and say I am not without faults but my heart is good and I wish to do good things. I want to be a positive part of the lives of my friends, my customers, and my community. I want only to do my best to make others happy and in turn be happy. I hope to always serve with best intentions and highest sincerity.
My dream is not to have my own store; working long hours while filing out loads of paperwork is usually not an enjoyment to many people. My dream is to do my best to serve my fellow human beings and my community, taking the personal gain from the joy and friendships I may attain, and to be appreciated for my care and service. If over time, I can educate my community to the benefits of technology, removing their fears of poor service and quality of work, prevent a family from being taking advantage of by a slick sales person, or paying for a Name and getting little to show for it, then I have done what I set to accomplish.
Quality, performance, attention, courtesy, and thoughtfulness is not in a name, a price tag, or a sales pitch. It is in an attitude. An attitude to work towards a goal. The goal being to do the best in what interests you and making the most of it and in turn, making something of yourself. Learn to feed your mind, work to strengthen the body, care to fortify the heart, and do good to fulfil the soul. This is why I am here and through my positive actions and attitude, I will know myself.
